1.Foundation

The predecessor of Department of History is the History Division, a specialized group of Faculty of Society, Thanh Hoa Pedagogical College. On September 24th, 1997, under the Prime Minister's Decision No. 797/TTg, Thanh Hoa Pedagogical College merged with Thanh Hoa College of Economics – Technology and College of Medicine to become Hong Duc University. On January 17th, 1998, according to Decision No. 138/TC/UB of the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the Faculty of Society was renamed as Faculty of Social Sciences. The Department of History is one specialized department of this faculty.

Currently, the Department of History has 08 lecturers, including 02 Associate Professors, 04 doctors and 2 masters.

3. Training program

The Department of History directly manage following training programs:

- Undergraduate: History Pedagogy (General and Advanced Class)

- Postgraduate:

+ Master program in Vietnamese History

+ Doctorate program in Vietnamese History

The Department of History is in charge of following courses:

  • History of Vietnam from primitive to present
  •  General History of Vietnam
  • World history from ancient to modern times
  •  World Civilization History
  •  Historical methodology
  •  Methods of teaching History
  • Basis of Archaeology
  •  General Ethnology

5. Key achievements

The Department of History has trained thousands of teachers and researchers in major of history for Thanh Hoa province as well as Vietnam in general. Beside training activities, the lecturers at The Department of History have gained many achievements in scientific research activities.

The lecturers have conducted and completed a number of important research projects (5 projected managed by Thanh Hoa province and 3 projects managed by Ministry of Education and Training project).

- Provincial projects

1. Current situation and solutions to preserve and embellish the historical site of Ho Dynasty Citadel (conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thanh Hai, completed in 2005, excellent rating).

2. The current situation and solutions to preserve ancient villages in the area of ​​the Ho Dynasty Citadel (conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy completed in 2014, excellent rating).

3. Forming a model of cultural villages ensuring national defense - security in the western border districts of Thanh Hoa province (conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy, completed in 2019, excellent rating).

4. Solutions to organize and manage community cultural activities in Thanh Hoa province (completed in 2019, excellent rating, advised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy).

5. Investigating the value of craft villages in Thanh Hoa province and proposing solutions to exploit them for sustainable tourism development (advised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy, in progress)

- Ministry of Education and Training projects

1. Using historical relics in teaching History at high schools in Thanh Hoa province. (conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thanh Hai, completed in 2012, good rating).

2. Research on the change of socio-economic and cultural characteristics of Tay Do area from the 15th century to the mid-19th century (conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy, completed in 2013, excellent rating).

3. ASEAN political-security cooperation in settling disputes in the East Sea from 1991 to 2016 (conducted by Dr. Le Sy Hung, completed in 2019).

6. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (contributor) (2016). General history of Vietnam, Thanh Hoa Publishing House.

By 2021, the lecturers in the Department of History have carried out more than 20 projects managed by Hong Duc University, actively written numerous research articles and conference papers. Typically, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy has an article in the list of ISI-Scopus.
